14A) 21 Jump Street
Running time: 110 Minutes.
3 stars out of 4.
21 Jump Street is a comedy, with romance, action, adventure, and a good social message. The film is based on the 90's television series which made Johnny Depp famous. It is two new cops named Greg Jenko played by Channing Tatum and Morton Schmidt played by Jonah Hill, who are forced to go to 21 Jump Street where they are forced to go undercover at their old High School, and find and bust a drug dealer.
This movie is awesome. Filled with laugh out loud jokes, a few surprises, and sick action sequences, this movie is everything that you except it to be, and a little more. Considering this film had a certified fresh 85% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes going into the film my expectations were very high, and gladly my expectations were met. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum make a great comedic duo, and I like how they broke the typical cop movie "good cop, bad cop" mold.
I do have some problems with the film. I have problems with the opening scene where I find it has been cut short to just get to the fun action scenes without letting the audience know about the characters past. Also, as the film increases in time, the quality decreases drastically. With few awkward laughs coming toward the last 1/2 hour, and in the last few minutes the film replaces clever comedy with silly and unfunny gross out gags.
