Believe the hype, La La Land is not only one of the best films of the year, it's one of the best film of the decade. Damien Chazelle's follow-up to 2014's exceptional "Whiplash," is one of the best musicals I have ever seen, and is a masterpiece in every sense. La La Land pulls of the tricky feat of being an homage to the musicals of the 1930's set to the backdrop of modern Los Angeles, where two dreamers come to make it big. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling both do exceptional work, and give nuanced and believable performances. The writing, cinematography, score, costumes, production design, and editing are all top notch and elevate what could have been a "traditional musical" to be something that is truly revolutionary.
La La Land is the best film of the year, and deserves to be seen by audiences, film lovers, and dreamers everywhere.
