G) Madagascar 3: Europes Most Wanted
Running Time: 93 Minutes.
3 stars out of 4.
One of the most successful animated series of all time is back yet again, with Madagascar 3: Europes Most Wanted 3D. This film marks the third and best Madagascar film in the trilogy.
Madagascar 3: Europes Most Wanted 3D follows Alex the lion( Ben Stiller), Melman the giraffe ( David Schwimmer), Gloria the hippopotamus( Jada Pinkett Smith), and Marty the Zebra( Chris Rock) as they try yet again to find there way back home to the New York City zoo, as they feel that is where they belong. The film picks up where the second instalment left off, in AFRICA. Alex just wants to go back to NYC, and after hearing that the Penguins left Melman, Marty, Gloria, and himself, for Monte Carlo he feels uneasy. The penguins decide to Monte Carlo because where they plan to go to Monte Carlo with there self built plane then head back to NYC. Alex is unhappy, but then convinces the other animals that they can swim to Monte Carlo, meet up with the penguins and board the flight to NYC with them. When they arrive, there attempt for a subtle entrance into the Monte Carlo hotel casino, is unsuccessful and Captain Chantel DuBois( Frances McDormand) the mean and cruel leader of animal control is called to find and capture Alex and crew. The madagascar animals try to escape from DuBois and after a long chase sequence they are granted permission from Gia( Jessica Chastain) to board the animal circus train, that will be going to Rome, London, and even New York. The animals are thankful and think that this is the time where they get to go home. THIRD TIMES THE CHARM????
Madagascar 3 is the absolute best Madagascar film in the trilogy. The film contains exceptional use of 3D, a very talented voice cast carried by Ben Stiller as Alex the lion, and a fun, comedic, and adventurous story. After seeing Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which I disliked very much I thought that Dreamworks Animation would had stretched this film series out way too long, like they how they did for Shrek. I was wrong, this is a funny, entertaining, and humorous film that I enjoyed. But...Madagascar did have some flaws. The flaws from this film were that I felt like mostly there was a great scene, then a so-so scene, and so on. Also, I felt like the montages, and sequences worked better than most of the scenes. Especially, the second circus scene I also found the Captain DuBois character very annoying, and too cruel. I did like the voice acting by Frances McDormand though.
At times Madagascar 3, felt too silly. I know this is a children's movie but there was not a lot of heart in the film, and when they did try to add heart and emotion it was very hard to believe. To me the Alex character's personalty changed too much from th first and second films. In this film he comes off as the sweet, enduring, and the cool guy that everyone basically worships. In the other films he was the obnoxious lion, that many people disliked, and that is what made him a character to remember in the previous films. In this film he is quite boring, unlike Marty who is just my favourite character. I would like to give a special mention to Chris Rock, Sacha Baran Cohen, and Jessica Chastain, whose voice acting is superb and to me was one of the reasons that made the film as good as it was. Hats off to them.
