Director Louis Leterrier has crafted one of the most fun and enjoyable films that you will experience this year in Now You See Me, a fun, suspenseful, darkly comedic, and entertaining epic. An FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team or illusionists who pull off bank heists during there performances and reward audiences with money (COURTESY IMDB) With a stellar cast that consists of Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Isla Fisher, and Woody Harrelson, Now You See Me exceeds expectations with a smartly written script, some really cool magic scenes, and great acting and despite few things Now You See Me is a winner.
Now You See Me surprised me. This is because I went in excepting a general forgettable and unoriginal summer movie. While watching the film I was surprised how smartly crafted the film was, because yes the magic that is portrayed in the film is out of this world and can clearly never happen in real life, but in the film it is explained how the illusionists did the magic, which is very interesting for the viewer, as it makes the film more realistic.
The performances in the film are great and very believable, the standout for me is Woody Harrelson who is incredibly funny as as the hypnotist, who always knows whats on your mind. Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman re team onscreen for the first time since last years Batman finale "The Dark Knight Rises." Jesse Eisenberg is also good as the protagonist J.Daniel Atlas and plays his regular smartest guy in the room character. Isla Fisher and Dave Franco are great in smaller secondary roles and help create a fun dynamic between The Four Horsemen Magicians.
This is the second film of the year that involves magic. The first film was a comedy staring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey titled The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which was poorly received critically and commercially with audiences and critics alike. Now You See Me shows how magic in film can be done right, with a simple but at times overly complex screenplay, and great performances.
My problems with Now You See Me is that some of the twists that the filmmakers include do not always work, and do not make sense, especially the "twist ending" that they try and stage, and because of the twisted ending I was left feeling a little unsatisfied after the film concluded.
Now You See Me is a fun, entertaining, and smartly crafted original summer film that will satisfy audiences, with its cool magic scenes and memorable dialogue and despite an unnecessary overlong twist ending, Now You See Me is one of the summers best films.
