Fresh off of the global success of last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," this year's follow-up mixes up the standard "Star Wars" formula, and instead of giving us the follow-up we all want, we get "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," a film so "inside-baseball" that it alienates the very audience that hopped on the Star Wars bandwagon last year, and became new fans. While Rogue One is a technical achievement, this "Star Wars Story" itself is not interesting enough to withstand a 2+ hour running time as there isn't enough story to fill this entire movie, which leaves for a muddled and overlong film, that is high on (some) great action, and low on a general story structure. While Rogue One starts off well, the film gets too caught up in Star Wars references and gratuitous fan service, that anyone other that a diehard Star Wars fan would be able to understand or appreciate. I expected more, but I was sorely disappointed. See this movie for the ending alone which could justify the price of admission.
