Running Time: 127 Minutes.
1 and a half stars out of 4.
The evil queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) looks at her reflection in a mirror then famously chants: "Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" This is part of one of summers most anticipated adaptations of Snow White. It is also the second film this year after Mirror Mirror based on the beloved tale.
Snow White and The Huntsman is a very dark twist on the beloved fairy tale. Charlize Theron plays the Queen Ravenna who is trying to find Snow White (Kristen Stewart)and take her heart, as she is supposedly the fairest of them all. Snow White had been prisoned by Ravenna, but then escapes and finds a huntsman who is sent to kill her but is then notifies her that Ravenna wants her to be killed. They go on a journey together, to escape the army the queen has sent to kill Snow White. The seven dwarfs are along for the journey too, which leads up to Snow White preventing the queen from her heart. I HOPE YOU WERE LESS BORED READING THE SYNOPSIS, THEN I WAS WATCHING THE FILM!
This movie is a snoozefest! The visuals do not carry the films bad narrative and screenplay, and the fact that Queen Ravenna is the only interesting character to this 127 minute film. Ravenna brings anger, and excitement to the film that neither the Huntsman(Chris Hemsworth) nor Snow White bring. There were moments when I was on Team Ravenna only because she was interesting.Nothing in this movie is fun or exciting. You would think that being an Action/Fantasy film there would be pure popcorn entertainment. Thing again. The only things this movie has going for it are very strong acting performances from Stewart, Theron, and Hemsworth, being well directed, and having amazing visual effects.
The first twenty minutes or so are exciting where you learn about the origins of Snow White, after that it goes downhill by pushing Queen Ravenna to the side, and just focusing on Snow Whites BORING adventure with the huntsman. I know the film is called Snow White and the Huntsman, but can't the title character have something interesting to do also. It got to the point where I started rooting for the queen to actually take Snow Whites heart, as it would make for some entertainment in tho boring and dull film. While watching in boredom I kept thinking that maybe Disney/Universal is building up an Avengers like movie with the live action princesses. They have done Alice, Snow White, Who's next?
