PG) The Bourne Legacy
Running Time: 135 Minutes.
The Bourne franchise has been very successful critically and financially. The original trilogy was very well received, and established Matt Damon as one of Hollywood's best actors. The fourth instalment of The Bourne Series replaces Matt Damons iconic Jason Bourne in favour of Jeremy Renners Aaron Cross. This is the first instalment in the series not to be based on one of Robert Lundums books, and is also one of the most boring action films this year. The Bourne Legacy is a summer blockbuster, that to me feels like money was the only reason that Universal decided to go forward with a fourth and very unnecessary third sequel to a great film franchise.
This was disappointing, because I really enjoy action films, and I thought that this film would be alot of fun, and there would actually be alot of action in it, I was mistaken. One critic said "There is too much legacy and not enough Bourne, in the latest instalment in the franchise," and I could not agree more, to me, there was too much, chatter, and not enough FUN action scenes.
Without giving you a muddled synopsis, to what I thought was a confusing film, IMDB will give you a synopsis from Universal about The Bourne Legacy. An expansion of the universe from Robert Ludlum's novels, centered on a new hero whose stakes have been triggered by the events of the previous three films. (Courtesy IMDB).
I attribute my dislike to the fact that I have not seen the previous Paul Greengrass Bourne films, so maybe that was why I was overly confused, and this film is said to be taking place over the same time as the Oscar winning Bourne Ultimatum.
I criticize the films title, because it has nothing to do with the film, aside from the fact that Jason Bourne is mentioned at least every scene, either with a could be like the previous films in that franchise, but there was no reason for a film centred on Jeremy Renners Aaron Cross, to be titled The Bourne Legacy. The acting from Jeremy Renner is solid, but Rachel Weisz is the surprise for me, because she was the most believable character, and the most likeable character. Other members include, Edward Norton, Joan Allen, and David Strathairn.
There were scenes that I enjoyed, such as the action scene in Dr. Marta Shearing' (Rachel Weisz) labratroty, and the mortcycle scene is some fun, but for a movie advertised as an action film I should be having a joy ride, while watching the entire film, and not waiting for it to end.
