14A) The Campaign
Warner Bros Pictures.
Running Time: 85 Minutes.
2 and a half stars out of 4.
Veteran funny man Will Ferrel has had a very successful career with his comedic films that consist of Anchorman,Taladega Nights, Elf, and Old School, to name a few. In The Campaign Ferrel produces, and stars as Cam Brady a congressman for North Carolina, who always wins the congress election on default, because he is the only person in the state who runs. Until Marty Huggins(Zach Galifianakis) shows up to give Cam Brady a run for his money, and runs in the North Carolina election representing the republican party. Cam Brady is not happy about this, and both try to put an end to each others campaign, in hopes of becoming congressman. Will Ferrel and Zach Galifinakas fans will not be disappointed, and with great laughs audiences everywhere will be satisfied with this political comedy.
The Campaign is a very funny film, and I did laugh out loud many times, and while Galifianakis and Ferrel are very funny together and have amazing chemistry and can really play off each other, I felt that The Campaign was not as funny as it should have been. When I watched The Campaign I felt that the gags, and jokes were very distant from each other, and some of the jokes did not work, especially one one ongoing gag involving a house keepers accent.
Will Ferrel and Zach Galifianakis are great, there performances are funny and believable, and there accents were very good. They made a good duo, and I would love to see them together in other comedies. They are led by a supporting cast including John Lithgow, Jason Sudekis, and Dylan McDermott. They are all funny, and helped keep some sanity in this almost too silly political comedy.
My problems with The Campaign were that most of the jokes were hit and miss, and the entire film felt like the same gag or joke over and over again, it reminded me of The Hangover and The Hangover Part 2.Also, the moments where director Jay Roach tried to add some heart and warmth to these obnoxious characters, felt awkward and I think did not belong in this often very funny film.
What I did enjoy was the performances and great laughs brought by Zach Galifianakis, and Will Ferrel, there performances and ongoing gags consisting of ads against each other, and ruining each others campaign made me laugh.
