PG) The Hunger Games
Running time: 142 Minutes.
3 and a half stars out of 4.
"Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be in your favour," is mentioned many times in The Hunger Games, a film based on popular books of the same name about 16 year old Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) who volunteers to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. I loved this film. I loved everything about it from the acting, to the score, to the script. I have seen this movie twice and could see it a third time. The two hours and twenty two minutes go by swiftly, but I really didn't want the film to end.
My only problem with the film is that in the action scenes, Director Gary Ross, uses the "shaky cam" technique, but this makes it very hard for the viewer to absorb what is happening, and you start to feel dizzy. People have said that this does not even compare to the novel but I'm reviewing the movie as a whole and not as a comparison (maybe ill do that when I finish the book).
The acting is AMAZING! Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss wonderfully and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta is very good. Liam Hemsworth is good in a brief, and somewhat effective performance. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theatres next year, and the original cast is returning, while most of the production crew has been replaced. Hopefully, the CGI and production values, are improved in the next film.
