PG) The Lucky One
Warner Bros Pictures
Running Time: 100 Minutes
2 stars out of 4.
The Luck One is a love story, based on the bestselling novel by famous author Nicholas Sparks, whose other books made into movies include fan favourite "The Notebook," and 2010 disaster that was "The Last Song." His other films include the forgetful "Nights in Rodanthe, and the mediocre "The Time Traveler's Wife," and "A Walk to Remember.
This film is about Logan (Zac Efron) who is a marine, who sets out on a quest to find the girl who with a picture saved his life." Thats it. If you were to ask me, if i would put this up to the height of "The Notebook" or the low of "The Last Song" I would rank this in the middle. Let's face it, this is one of those movies where another thing happens, then another thing, then another thing!!!!
This does keep it interesting but the storytelling is so weak, that it is hard to keep up with whats happening. As far as the acting goes, Zac Efron is pretty good, he is believable and him and his co star Taylor Schilling have good chemistry, but it does not make up for the films weak storytelling. The film also stars Blythe Danner who literally has NOTHING to do, you see her walking a dog and then talking in a kitchen but they should have given her character which was ONE OF MY FAVOURITES more to do.
The films first half is strong, with the exception of the storytelling, but the second half is a disaster, based on what happens in the first half you KNOW what will happen and I was fine with that but, the filmmakers could have added more excitement.
